Bird Marella

Los Angeles, CA | 22,000 sf

Bird Marella, a law firm specializing in the practice of complex civil and criminal litigation, approached POLLACK to redesign their headquarters on Century Park Boulevard, in Los Angeles. The project, a gut renovation of the client’s penthouse offices and expansion to a portion of another floor, held one single major point of focus. The client wanted to create a work environment that was equally as enjoyable for employees as for clients – and this focal point guided each organizational and design move.

In order to accomplish this goal, POLLACK worked with Bird Marella to create an office space that capitalizes on the natural light offered by the large windows wrapping the perimeter of the building. Attention was paid to ensure that internal secretarial stations, conference rooms and the main break room had access to natural light. Custom casework and specialty lighting dot the entire space, creating rooms that both provide a high level of functionality and are enhanced with beautiful wood millwork and dramatic lighting. The café was developed as an oasis that allows for employees to socialize together, as well as offering an informal place to discuss cases.

The client experience centers on the main reception area, where guests are greeted with views of the Los Angeles skyline through a suite of glassy conference rooms. Of particular importance was the design and location of the main board room, which needed to seat 30 people at a central table with additional space around. This space was to be used for large depositions and weekly lunch meetings involving partners and associates, in addition to functioning as the main space for events. The result of POLLACK’s planning, design and detailing is a sophisticated space that is welcoming to guests, enjoyable to work in, and is tailored to fit the needs of high-level, client focused legal services.
